Additional Info: Ryan Sullivan was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida and has participated in band since 6th grade, beginning at Fort Clarke Middle School, under the direction of W. Everett McConn. From there, he went on to Buchholz High School. The band program at Buchholz has had a very prestigious history, earning honors such as the Sudler Flag of Honor, performing at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic twice since 2000, and winning numerous marching and concert band competitions. Buchholz was under the direction of FBA Hall of Famer Paula Thornton until 2007, when the program was taken over by Alex Kaminsky. in 2009, Ryan performed in Carnegie Hall as the principal tubist of the Buchholz Wind Symphony. The Wind Symphony went on to be the top rated overall band at the New York Wind Band Festival (more information can be found here). Ryan also performed with the Buchholz Advanced Jazz Band on the Bass Trombone, under the direction of John P. Lacognata.

Throughout his middle and high school career, Ryan was selected to the Alachua County All-County band from 2003-2009 (7th-12th grade), was the principal tubist in the Alachua County Youth Orchestra from 2006-2009 under the direction of R. Gary Langford, received consistent superiors at both FBA District and State Solo and Ensemble evaluations, and was selected to the 2009 Florida All-State Symphonic Band, under the direction of Frank Ticheli.

Ryan is now attending the University of Florida, where he is working on degrees in Tuba Performance and Music Education. He joined the Tuba/Euphonium Studio in 2009, where he receiving instruction from James Jenkins, principal tubist of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.

Ryan has experience teaching middle school brass players ranging from beginners to advanced players, and currently teaches tuba sectionals at Fort Clarke Middle School. He will also be on staff with the Buchholz High School "Golden Regiment" for the Fall 2010 semester.

Ryan is active in the Eta Omega chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. In his spare time, he enjoys watching/playing almost any sport, relaxing, and of course, spending time with his family.
