I was a member of the USAF Band in the middle 50's under Col George S. Howard. I played for the 2nd inauguration of Dwight D. Eisenhower.
I was a student of William Bell, and William Lewin William Lewin was a member of the Goldman Band and the National Symphony orchestra.
I am been trying along with Steve Shoop to perform some of the older
Tuba solos that were available with Band Acc.
I have perform with the Virginia Grand Military Band, the Zanesville, Ohio Memorial Band ( I Played The Carioca) with out any rehearsal time
I was guest soloist with the Crosby, Tx Spring Concert and also the Scarborough High School Spring Concert.
I have performed with the Gulf Coast Band The Elephant and The fly with Darlene Clark playing piccolo we also performed it with the Livingston Band.
I performed The Happy Farmer with the Gulf Coast Band, this is the same
arrangement that Mr. Bell performed with The Band of America, I heard him play it on the radio and told the school music teacher I wanted to play the tuba I was 12 years old. I have taught high speed driving most of my life, but never lost my love for music and the tuba, I began playing again in 1985 with a few lessons from the late great William Rose
and David Kirk the tubist in the Houston Symphony.
My dear friend Harvey Phillips who I have know since 1955,
he prepared the first pizza I ever tasted. Harvey signed my Phillips-Holton Tuba, I arranged for a Tribute To Harvey Phillips on August 18, 2000
It turned out wonderful with a lot of great tuba and euphonium players
joining the Houston Symphonic Band to let Harvey know they loved and respected him so much.
I will visit him is August, he is very ill at this time.
I still love to play the tuba and love to see young players succeed.
