Born in Israel, Haim Mazar started his musical career playing the violin at the age of seven. Haim wanted to do his military service with the Israeli Army Band and since marching with a violin is out of the ordinary, he was encouraged to play the tuba. He started playing the tuba at the age of fifteen under the tutelage of teacher Ariel Sasson and Adi Heshko, principal tubist of the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra.
Haim has performed with many orchestras including the Israeli Army Band (2003-2006), the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra (June 2007), the Chautauqua Music Festival Orchestra and more. Recent performance venues include The Kennedy Center for the Arts and Clowes Hall in Indianapolis, Indiana, where his brass quintet C Street Brass was a Guest Artist with the Honor Band of America. Haim was also awarded the Grace Clagett Ranney Prize in chamber music by the Peabody Conservatory.
In May 2010, Haim received a Bachelor of Music Degree in tuba performance from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University where he is now pursuing a Graduate Performance Diploma studying with David T. Fedderly, principal tubist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. |
